This was Bryony’s last ride in her unbelievable first season riding as a professional. She finished the season in joint 25th place in The Stobart Jump Jockeys Championship, tied with A P Heskin. She was the leading female professional jockey in England with double the number of winners of her nearest rival, Bridget Andrews with 19 winners. This season, Bryony rode an unbelievable 100 different horses for numerous trainers and owners in an amazing 202 races. Of course most of her rides and winners were trained by Paul Nicholls, for whom she is conditional jockey, as well as lots of successful rides for Jimmy and The Frost Racing Club.
Bryony only turned professional in July and her last ride as an amateur was a great 3rd on Silver Quay, trained by Jimmy and owned by C and Mrs A Jones in the Ladies Derby for Amateur riders at Epsom. As I’m sure you all know, her first professional win was on Black Corton for Paul Nicholls at Worcester, on her first day riding as a professional.
Bryony was also only the second female jockey to ever win a Grade 1 race on Black Corton in the Kauto Star Novices Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day. Bryony also had an awesome ride on Milansbar for Neil King to finish 5th in their first Grand National and to be the first English trained horse home as well as the first English Jockey.
Lets hope Bryony’s second season is as successful as her first, and she keeps getting all the support from everyone she’s ridden for this year as well as lots of other great winning rides!
